Established in the summer of 2020, First Thought Care Services was founded by Jack in response to the care and support staff shortage in the South West region caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Jack, the owner of the company, brings personal experience with mental health issues to his work, having been sectioned twice as a child.
Against all odds, Jack has turned his childhood dream into reality and is committed to providing quality care services that prioritise safety, support, and respect for every individual. First Thought Care Services, we collaborate with local authorities and we offer both residential and day services.
We have been registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) since January 17th 2023, allowing us to provide personalised care services to individuals in our home. To learn more about our services, visit our dedicated Care Services section or Referrals section.
Presently, we have opened a new branch in Hereford where we continue our mission to help and support the ones that need our services. We collaborate with various local authorities, including Gloucestershire County Council, Herefordshire Council, Bath and North-East Somerset, CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) and private clients.
Choose First Thought Care Services for a professional and compassionate approach to care that fosters a nurturing and supportive environment for individuals to thrive!

We encourage all of our staff to take managed, thought out risks. By doing this, we are able to strive to go the extra mile wherever possible.
We earn the trust placed in us by insisting on quality and striving to get the basics right every time: safety, confidentiality, professional and managerial integrity, accountability, dependable service and good communication. We encourage feedback, to enable us to learn from our mistakes and build on our successes.
We recognise that by working together, we are able to achieve greater things. We put our Service Users at the heart of every decision that we make and work as a wider team, alongside many other organisations. We put the needs of service users and communities before organisational boundaries.
We have this mentality of continuous improvement and development of new products and services. Employees are always looking for ways to make our customers’ experiences better and better, while also improving the efficiency of our daily work.
A few ways we empower our team members to innovate is through the encouragement to be persistent, take risks, and make mistakes.
We value each person as an individual, respect their aspirations and commitments in life, and seek to understand their priorities, needs, abilities and limits. We take what others have to say seriously. We are honest about our point of view and what we can and cannot do.

I have worked in the care sector for several years and have also managed several services. I grew up with both parents being deaf and had a stint where I was the service user. I decided to use my knowledge and experience to give back and help hear the voices of those that may rely on others for a care service. I have my Level 5 Leadership and Management in Adult Care and my Level 5 in Children and Young People and am currently training to be a BSL Interpreter too. I am a qualified H&SC Trainer, as well as a senior Team Teach Trainer.

I have worked as a part-time support worker during my Postgraduate Studies at the peak of the pandemic and I saw the struggles people went through which made me more motivated to help. After I completed my second master's degree in Management with Human Resources, I decided to focus my career in Health & Social Care, I knew that was the sector I wanted to go into to ensure that we recruit and manage the best of hands to care for service users. Coming from working previously in the Management team of 3 healthcare companies. I began my journey with FTCS recently and I'm excited for the future with the business.

Heading the operational aspect of our provisions, I thrive from a challenge. I enjoy being on the front line and helping our support workers ensure that we are providing an outstanding service and enabling them to live as independently as possible. I have an extensive background in Children's care, including being a qualified Nursery Nurse and achieving my Level 3 in Counselling. I also hold my Level 5 Health Leadership and Management in Adult Care. I am also one of the PBS practitioners within the organisation.

I joined First Thought Care Services as a Service Manager, bringing with me extensive experience in the care sector. My journey began with a career shift that sparked my passion for supporting individuals with mental health challenges and learning difficulties. Over the years, I’ve progressed from a support worker to a Registered Home Manager, with experience in both domiciliary and residential care settings. At First Thought Care Services, I lead the education at the Alternative Provision. I’m passionate about making a difference in the lives of those I support, and seeing them grow and achieve is incredibly rewarding. I’m excited to continue my journey with First Thought Care Services, contributing to the growth and success of our team and the people we support.

Beginning with the company in 2022, I began my role as a Support Worker. I came from a care background, working with those who live with a Learning Disability, and associated behaviours that may challenge. I was then promoted to a Team Leader within FTCS, showing my ambition to provide a 5* service. I then progressed and applied for the new opening for a Service Manager. I achieved this, through sheer hard work and determination. I too am one of the PBS practitioners within the organisation. Within my role, I manage all complex cases in our Gloucester provision.

I joined First Thought Care Services in July 2025 before stepping into the Service Manager role in November 2025. I’m a qualified Social Worker with extensive experience in safeguarding, complex case management and working directly with children, young people and families. My background includes completing Child in Need work, Child Protection investigations, court proceedings, direct work with children, and multi-agency planning, all of which shaped the practitioner and leader I am today. Before joining FTCS, I worked within Gloucestershire County Council’s Safeguarding Team. Stepping into the Service Manager role has given me the chance to use my safeguarding knowledge, leadership skills and social work values to strengthen practice across our service. I’m proud to be part of FTCS and to help create environments where young people feel safe, heard and supported to grow.

Recently, I completed my degree in Psychology, which has deepened my understanding of the individuals we support and further fueled my commitment to making a difference in their daily lives.

Hi, I’m Tia, and my journey with First Thought Care Services began back in 2020 when I joined as a Support Worker. FTCS was my first real introduction to the world of care, and it shaped not only my career but also my passion for supporting people, building relationships and making a genuine difference. After some time away, I returned to the organisation as our Wellbeing Manager, before stepping into my current role as Referrals Manager, working alongside Sharon. It’s been a full-circle experience and one I’m incredibly proud of. I’m passionate about communication, transparency and making the referral process feel human, not transactional. FTCS has always felt like home to me, and I’m grateful to now be in a role where I can help shape the very first step of someone’s journey with us.
Our Senior Support Workers and Team Leaders play a vital role in the day-to-day delivery and oversight of care and education across First Thought Care Services. Acting as a bridge between frontline staff and management, they ensure that our values, policies, and high standards are consistently upheld in practice.
These team members are experienced, compassionate professionals who lead by example - supporting staff on shift, mentoring new team members, and stepping in to manage challenging situations with confidence and care. They are responsible for implementing care and support plans, coordinating keywork sessions, and ensuring that the individuals we support receive consistent, person-centred support throughout their journey with us.
Senior Support Workers and Team Leaders also take the lead in monitoring and recording outcomes, contributing to multidisciplinary reviews, and feeding into risk assessments and behaviour support planning. Their presence on the ground ensures that each young person or adult is supported by a team that is well-informed, cohesive, and focused on enabling positive outcomes.
At First Thought Care Services, we view our Senior Support Workers and Team Leaders as the backbone of our operational delivery. Their knowledge, leadership, and commitment to our mission make a meaningful difference every single day.

What a great way to be able to merge my caring nature and maintenance experience and skills! I am one of the Maintenance Support for FTCS and help to manage several properties across the South-West.
